| KneckDown headlines final First Friday Concert |
|
09/06/07 Severo Avila, RN-TFeatures Editor Respond to this story Email this story to a friend
Things are looking up for local rockers KneckDown, but they’ll never be too big to play a gig at home.
After what many consider a meteoric rise in the area music scene for the band, they’ve secured a coveted spot tour-ing with Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Marshall Tucker Band. But true to their roots, KneckDown is still a Rome band and say they are honored to be able to play at this week’s First Friday Concert as the featured act at Bridgepoint Plaza. The free concert begins at 7 p.m. The Slips will open for KneckDown.
“This is probably the biggest honor I’ve had as a musician,” said Jay Shell, lead vocalist and songwriter for the band. “Getting to do a big community event like this is great. It’s nice when I get to do a show somewhere other than a bar and my daughter gets to come.”

Country band Kneckdown a Spring Garden start-up
By Scott Wright
Jay Shell would be the first to tell you he's just a country boy from Spring Garden, Alabama. In fact, if you care to attend his band's next performance he'll tell you all about it one line and a time and probably have you singing along by the second chorus.
Shell, 30, is founder and lead singer of the country rock band Kneckdown. The Spring Garden graduate started out singing gospel songs in church with his mother and sister as a boy. He wasn't very much older when he realized he had talent as a singer and thoroughly enjoyed the satisfaction of a well-received performance.
